The infrastructure of the Transmission System Operator at the service of the information society

Source: RTE 09/07/2001

The French Government has just agreed to go ahead with the expert evaluation and technical testing of the deployment of optical fibre cables on the French power transmission network.

Upon the closure of the meeting of the Interdepartmental Committee for Regional and National Development (CIADT) which was held today in Limoges, the Government has decided to make an expert evaluation and technical test of the possibility of using the infrastructures of the Réseau de Transport d'Electricité (RTE - Transmission System Operator) to deploy optical fibre cable networks, in order to give priority to supplying the least equipped areas of our country.

RTE takes note of this decision with satisfaction.

It will do all that is necessary, under the responsibility of the Secretary of State for Industry, to contribute to the study to be conducted by the end of the year aimed at testing an efficient and high-performance deployment scenario.

Thanks to this decision, which will allow broader access to the high transmission rate offer, RTE will put its human resources and technical know-how at the service of the greatest number.

It will exercise its responsibilities in this field in a transparent and non-discriminatory way, under the control of the Electricity Regulation Commission (CRE) and the Telecommunications Regulation Authority (ART), in application of the Public Service missions which have been entrusted to it.
