The French power consumption record was beaten at 7 p.m. on Thursday, 15 November, with a consumption peak of 72,450 MW.

The French power consumption record was beaten at 7 p.m. on Thursday, 15 November, with a consumption peak of 72,450 MW.
The previous record, which dates back to 12 January 2000, was 72,320 MW.
The meteorological conditions, exceptional for a month of November, partially explain such a consumption level. On Thursday evening, average temperatures were below 3°C compared with normal seasonal figures, which resulted in more than 3,000 MW in additional demand, i.e. a consumption increase of more than 4%.
At the time the record was beaten, the operating margin was still 4,000 MW.

RTE wishes to mention the consumption curve can be consulted in real time on its Web site www.rte-france.com, under the section "Power system life" / "Load curves".

The role of Réseau de Transport d'Electricité (RTE - Transmission System Operator), created on 1 July 2000 and an independent entity within EDF, is to operate the high and extra high voltage power transmission network supplying electricity distributors (EDF GDF SERVICES and local distribution companies). This network consists of 100,000 km of power lines with a voltage between 63 kV and 400 kV.
