In November 2001, RTE organise a call for tenders to purchase the energy needed to compensate for power losses in the first half of 2002. All European suppliers are invited to take part.

In November 2001, RTE will organise a call for tenders to purchase the energy needed to compensate for power losses in the first half of 2002. All European suppliers are invited to take part in this call for bids.
On the basis of present forecasts, the energy needed to cover the power losses of the first half of 2002 comes to 5.7 TWh. It will be purchased over 6 one-month periods in the form of the following products:

Firm purchases

- Firm Base Load Energy Block: constant power over the whole period considered. Depending on the periods, the total power of the Firm Base Load Energy Blocks purchased will be between 750 MW and 1,450 MW.
- Peak Load Energy Block - Working Day: constant power from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. on every working day of the period considered. Depending on the periods, the total power of the Peak Load Energy Block - Working Day products purchased will be between 0 MW and 200 MW.

Optional hourly and block purchases:
In addition to firm purchases, RTE will purchase two types of options over each of the six periods:
- Hourly option: the reserved energy will be taken up on an hourly basis no later than the day before the first working day preceding the day of delivery. Depending on the periods, the total power of the hourly options purchased will be between 350 MW and 550 MW.
- Block option: the reserved energy will be taken up on a daily basis no later than the day before the first working day preceding the day of delivery. It will be taken up according to an "all or nothing" approach (the power taken up will be constant on each of the days of the period considered and equal to 0 MW or 20 MW). Depending on the periods, the total power of the block options purchased will be between 40 MW and 180 MW.

We wish to draw your attention to the fact that the power volumes per products are given for information purposes only. RTE reserves the right to change them.
This energy will be purchased under competitive conditions according to the rules to be set out in the tender documents. These tender documents will be available as of 8 November 2001.
