Information concerning the 225 kV interconnection line between Pragnères (France) and Biescas (Spain) .

Source: RTE 05/02/2003

Incident on the 225 kV interconnection line between Pragnères (France) and Biescas (Spain).

The large snowfalls and violent winds prevailing over the Pyrenees in the night of 30 to 31 January 2003 seriously damaged some towers of the Pragnères-Biescas 225 kV interconnection line between France and Spain, near the Pragnères substation.
Because of the difficult access conditions (snow and mountainous region), the repair works will be lengthy: as seen today, the line will not be able to be put back into operation before several weeks. During this period and despite this outage, RTE will make available an interconnection capacity between both countries that comes close to the usual levels with a full network.
The interconnection capacity between France and Spain for the current week is actually evolving as follows :

- capacity in the direction from France to Spain between 1,150 MW and 1,000 MW depending on the hourly intervals (instead of 1,400 MW - 1,200 MW initially scheduled for this week),

- capacity in the direction from Spain to France between 600 MW and 750 MW depending on the hourly intervals (values unchanged compared with those initially scheduled for this week).

The works duration, the line restoration date, as well as the effects on the capacity will be regularly updated on our Web site (http://www.rte-france.com/htm/an/vie/presentation_espagne.htm, section "Annual NTC forecasts during the works periods" and sections on "Capacity forecasts over monthly, weekly and daily periods").
