RTE and EDF Réseau Distribution inaugurated the electricity substation at La Muette, the latest stage in the programme aimed at securing the power supply to the west of Paris.

The 225,000 volt / 20,000 volt transforming substation at La Muette will act as a relay between the RTE transmission system and EDF's distribution network. It will supply power to most of Paris' 15th and 16th districts, notably La Cité de l'Air, the Paris Heliport, the Parc des Princes stadium, the Maison de la Radio and Canal+. It will also help to secure the power supply to the Georges Pompidou hospital, the Porte de Versailles Exhibition Centre and France Télévision.

To meet the increasing demands of electricity consumption in western Paris, RTE and the distribution system operator EDF have undertaken a vast programme aimed at securing their networks. After electric substations were commissioned at Longchamp in 2001, Ternes in 2002 and La Muette in 2003, the one hundred million-euro programme is set to be completed in 2007 with the installation of a new 225,000 volt underground cable between Carrières-sous-Poissy and Nanterre.
